David Miguel is the Owner/Operator of Elevated Hemp and Owner/CEO of Earth Journey Productions. Based in Bellingham, Washington, David aims to increase the quality of education on the ECS or endocannabinoid system to the public. He aims to teach others how, just like any other crucial system in the body, the endocannabinoid system is crucial to regulating our sense of balance and homeostasis. In this episode, David talks to our host on everything you need to know about the ECS and how the federal government has started loosening the regulations towards cannabis and psychedelics in various states across the nation.
First, David recounted how they could shift to a “mom and pop” business away from the recreational market a month before the coronavirus struck the world. Instead of taking the easiest way to earn money, diving into the corporate world, David focused on education and empowering people to rise above the barriers surrounding it.
Transcending the Medical and Legal Boundaries
People nowadays are not as ignorant and prejudiced towards the idea of cannabis in general. Although there are still some frowning faces when someone hears such an idea, it is slowly becoming more acceptable as the government loosens its rules and regulations. David believes that the legalization of hemp is the catalyst to this wide acceptance. However, things are not as easy as they seem to be. Although the federal and state governments tried breaking down and classifying cannabis and hemp, the existence of cannabinoids blurred what the classification aims to get as some medicines existed on both plants in varying degrees.
This convoluted attempt to systematize everything led patients to think that this is still a recreational thing. David hoped that industry leaders and big companies could inform the world that the psychedelic space is a “language beyond the ‘getting high.’” Humans are pre-wired to accept the benefits, stabilize our ECS, and take things to the next level.
The Magic of the Endocannabinoid System
Our body is composed of different systems. And just like any other important system, like our nervous and circulatory systems, we also have the endocannabinoid system. David described the endocannabinoid system or ECS as a master regulator of homeostasis or balance. Understanding this system can help people see cannabinoids from different perspectives, and it doesn’t supplement our nervous system, as most people understand. David believes that the method of consumption plays a pivotal role in understanding what the ECS is, or what he refers to as “a journey of understanding.”
David further discussed the importance of the ECS and how it correlated to the fight or flight syndrome. The ECS can ground the stresses a person experiences. Thus, when the ECS is slow, it starts to affect your decision-making capabilities because the stress clouds your process of making sound decisions. Just like how people parroted the importance of understanding physical, outward pain, psychological pain exists. And by understanding ECS, people can now discern that what you experience is not just as trivial as what others make it. By being dedicated to educating the public on cannabinoids, David believes that people become liberated from the stigma. In turn, they get empowered from the learnings they can get from the new idea and knowledge.
Bringing Light to the Darkness
David wants to be prepared and ready for anything good or bad that he will inevitably encounter. And by realizing the pivotal role of ECS to a person, the mind-body connection further accentuates his belief in achieving a healthy and grounded life. By being conscious of everything you want to do, from decision-making to fortuitous or dire encounters, do them in the best light and intention. David believes that although you are limited to what you can do at that moment, and not everything is under your control, that’s what being conscious is all about.
The journey to educating and exploring the full potential of cannabinoids has just started. David wants to invite everyone to take the journey with him and discover the essence of cannabinoids from within. Although the federal and state government have begun to shift, it is still a long journey for everyone to accept the idea without inhibitions and prejudice.
“There’s a lot of shadows in the world. But for shadows to exist, there must be light.”
